Design Manager

This is a permanent Design Manager role based in Stevenage with hybrid working, combining office, site and home-based days. The successful candidate will join a privately owned main contractor with a long-term pipeline across Hertfordshire and surrounding counties, leading design delivery on a blue light sector portfolio including Fire Stations, Police Stations and Multi-Use Blue Light Facilities. Responsibilities include managing the design process from early feasibility and planning through to on-site coordination and delivery, on a new build project valued circa £10m–£15m, and acting as liaison between the design team, client and on-site delivery team. Salary is £60,000–£75,000 plus car allowance, private healthcare and pension.

A market-leading, privately owned, Main Contractor with a secure, long-term pipeline of work across Hertfordshire and surround counties is seeking a talented Design Manager to join their team.

This role offers the opportunity to lead and support design delivery across an exciting long term blue light sector portfolio spanning Fire Stations, Police Stations, and Multi-Use Blue Light Facilities.

The Design Manager will be responsible for managing the design process from early feasibility and planning stages through to on-site coordination and delivery, taking responsibility for a new build project c-10m15m in value.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Driving efficient design process aligned with project timelines and commercial targets.

Acting as a liaison between the design team, client, and on-site delivery team.

While focusing primarily on early feasibility and procurement stages, the Design Manager will oversee technical compliance and design management, monitoring on-site design coordination and managing the performance of external consultants.

Ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.

Desirable Experience:

• Sector experience to include one of the following: Fire Stations, Police Stations, Multi-Use Blue Light Facilities
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a design management role for a Main Contractor.
• Previous Roles May Include: Design Coordinator | Technical Manager | Design & Build Manager | Design Manager | Assistant Design Manager

Qualifications & Skills: HNC or Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology OR comparable qualification.
