Field Service Engineer - HVAC (Rolling Stock)

Location: UK Wide (Extensive Travel Required)
Salary: £45,000 + Overtime + Expenses + Company Van
Hours: 40 hours per week (typically 45-50 hours worked, with overtime paid at standard rate)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer with a strong background in Rolling Stock HVAC systems to join a specialist engineering team supporting maintenance, overhaul, fault finding and modification projects across railway depots and customer sites throughout the UK.

This is a field-based role requiring extensive travel and overnight stays, offering the opportunity to work on a variety of rolling stock HVAC systems within a fast-paced rail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, repairs, fault finding and modification work on rolling stock HVAC equipment.
  • Deliver modification programmes, repairs and maintenance activities in line with project requirements and engineering standards.
  • Prepare for all assigned work by ensuring the correct tools, parts, drawings, tooling, fixtures and test equipment are available and fit for purpose prior to commencing work.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Liaise professionally with customers and depot personnel on a daily basis.
  • Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records and documentation.
  • Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical and refrigeration-related faults.
  • Support commissioning, testing and system validation activities where required.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance at all times.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working on HVAC systems within the rolling stock/rail industry.
  • FGAS Certification.
  • Brazing qualification and practical brazing experience.
  • Strong fault-finding and maintenance skills across HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Customer-facing experience with excellent communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
