Finance Assistant

This Finance Assistant role is based in Cardiff with hybrid working, including two days working from home per week, and offers a salary of £28,000 to £30,000 per annum. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, managing the finance inbox and responding to internal and external queries, processing purchase invoices and preparing supplier payments, raising sales invoices and maintaining billing schedules, and chasing outstanding payments. You will also support month-end, reporting and wider business processes, managing your workload independently with support and training from the Financial Controller.

We're working with a fast-paced, internationally focused SME based in Cardiff that is restructuring its finance function and looking for a Finance Assistant to join the team at an exciting time of growth and development.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, organised and involved across a broad range of finance activities, rather than being restricted to one area.

The Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring everything runs smoothly and accurately while supporting month-end, reporting and wider business processes.

You'll be trusted to manage your workload independently, with support and training from the Financial Controller.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the finance inbox and responding to internal and external queries
• Processing purchase invoices and preparing supplier payments
• Raising sales invoices and maintaining billing schedules
• Chasing outstanding payments and supporting credit control
• Completing bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
• Processing employee expenses
• Preparing payroll for review and supporting payroll administration
• Maintaining accurate and organised financial records
• Posting journals and preparing month-end reconciliations
• Supporting VAT return preparation
• Assisting with management accounts and supporting schedules
• Maintaining accurate project cost allocations and supporting budget tracking
• Managing compliance processes, including KYC and AML
• Supporting client, sponsor and supplier onboarding
• Assisting with payroll, benefits and wider HR administration
• Helping to improve processes and document finance procedures

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is reliable, commercially minded and confident managing the day-to-day responsibilities of a busy finance function.

You'll ideally have:

• AAT qualification, studying towards AAT, or equivalent bookkeeping experience
• Previous experience in day-to-day bookkeeping, ideally within an SME
• Good working knowledge of Xero
• Experience with multi-currency transactions and reconciliations
• Strong Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• The ability to manage your workload independently and meet deadlines

Experience with payroll, international invoicing, EU VAT, professional services, events, media or project accounting would be advantageous.
