Job Description

Newly Created Role | Manufacturing | Alconbury

Take ownership. Set the standards. Make a real difference.

I'm working with a well-established, international manufacturing business looking to appoint a Health & Safety Manager into a newly created position at their Alconbury site.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced H&S professional who enjoys having ownership, visibility and the autonomy to make a difference. You'll be the dedicated Health & Safety lead for the site, working closely with the General Manager and operational teams to take responsibility for standards, compliance and continuous improvement.

Rather than stepping into an established structure, you'll have the opportunity to shape the H&S agenda, introduce improvements and really make the role your own.

DAY TO DAY

Taking ownership of the site's overall Health & Safety strategy, ensuring legislation, compliance and best practice are consistently met.

  • Developing and implementing site-wide H&S policies, procedures, standards and improvement plans.
  • Working closely with the General Manager and operational teams to embed a positive safety culture.
  • Leading internal and external audits, including ISO, ethical and compliance audits, ensuring actions are addressed.
  • Managing accident, incident and near-miss investigations, carrying out root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures.
  • Overseeing risk assessments, COSHH, safety training and ongoing compliance requirements.
  • Providing advice, guidance and support to managers and supervisors, challenging where necessary and driving accountability.
  • Monitoring H&S performance, identifying trends and taking a proactive approach to reducing risk across the site.
  • Ensuring RIDDOR reporting and all relevant statutory requirements are managed appropriately.

YOU?

At least 3 years' experience in a Health & Safety Manager, Site H&S Lead or similar position.

  • A background within manufacturing, FMCG or another operational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing audits, accident investigations, risk assessments and COSHH.
  • Confident carrying out root cause analysis and implementing corrective action plans.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification would be advantageous.
  • A confident communicator who can influence people at all levels, from shop floor through to senior management.
  • Someone proactive and hands-on who is comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership.

WHY?

Newly created position with genuine ownership of the site H&S function.

  • Opportunity to shape processes, standards and the wider safety culture.
  • Direct exposure to and working relationship with the General Manager.
  • A predominantly site-based role where you can see the impact of your work.
  • Part of an established, international business operating across multiple product categories.

If you're an experienced Health & Safety professional looking for a role where you can take ownership, influence change and make a genuine impact within a manufacturing environment, I'd be keen to hear from you.
