Job Description

Multi-Skilled Fire & Security Engineer

Experienced Fire & Security Engineer? Make Your Next Move Count.

We're working with an established engineering business looking to recruit an experienced Fire & Security Service Engineer to support its growing customer base across Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding areas.

This is a hands-on, field-based position covering the servicing, maintenance and repair of fire alarms and electronic security systems. You'll be trusted to manage your own workload, solve technical problems and deliver a high standard of service to commercial and industrial customers.

With a good mix of planned maintenance, emergency call-outs and small works, no two days will be quite the same.

The Package

Our client offers an excellent combination of basic salary, additional earning potential and employee benefits:

  • £46,000 - £50,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
  • Overtime at 1.5x for evenings and 2x for qualifying late and weekend work.
  • £250 on-call allowance for each standby week, plus payment for hours worked.
  • Only 1-in-12 call-out rota.
  • Company van and fuel provided.
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Company pension.
  • Company laptop, mobile phone and all necessary tools.
  • Ongoing training and technical development.
  • Opportunities for longer-term progression as the business continues to expand.

The Role - What You'll Be Doing

Working across a regional portfolio of customer sites, you'll be responsible for keeping critical fire protection and electronic security systems operating safely and reliably. Your work will include:

  • Planned preventative maintenance and routine servicing of Fire & Security systems.
  • Investigating system faults, diagnosing problems and completing effective repairs.
  • Working on **fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms, access control and door entry systems**.
  • Carrying out minor installations, remedial works, upgrades and system modifications.
  • Responding to customer breakdowns and urgent service requirements.
  • Advising customers on equipment issues, maintenance requirements and recommended repairs.
  • Maintaining accurate service reports and compliance documentation.
  • Ensuring all work meets relevant safety regulations, technical standards and company procedures.

You'll also join a well-managed emergency call-out rota, approximately one week in every twelve.

Is This the Right Role for You?

We're interested in speaking with experienced engineers who can demonstrate a good working knowledge of multiple Fire & Security disciplines.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A proven background in field-based Fire & Security servicing or maintenance.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills, particularly on fire alarm systems.
  • Experience working with CCTV, intruder alarms, access control and/or door entry equipment.
  • Knowledge of different manufacturers and system technologies.
  • The ability to work independently and complete jobs efficiently.
  • Confidence dealing directly with customers and explaining technical issues.
  • A reliable, professional approach to your work.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Knowledge of IP networking, analogue CCTV systems or automated gates and barriers would be useful, but isn't essential.

You don't need experience of every system or manufacturer. Engineers with a solid technical background and an interest in developing their skills further are encouraged to apply.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

If you're feeling limited in your current role, looking for better earning potential or simply want to work for a business where your technical skills are valued, this position offers plenty of reasons to make a move. You'll benefit from the independence of a field-based service role, the support of an established engineering operation and opportunities to broaden your experience across different technologies. Ideally, you'll live in Tunbridge Wells or the surrounding Kent and East Sussex area, with customer visits planned regionally wherever possible.
