About this role

SEND Teaching Assistant - Mainstream School

Location: Croydon, CR0 - commutable from South Croydon, Thornton Heath, Purley and surrounding areas
Pay: £110 - £125 per day

Contract: Long-term temporary with potential to become permanent

Long Term Futures is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream school in Croydon, CR0 on a full-time, long-term basis.

This role will focus on supporting pupils with additional needs within a mainstream classroom environment. You'll provide a combination of 1:1, small-group and classroom support, helping pupils access learning, build confidence and develop greater independence.

The school is looking for someone who understands how to adapt their approach to individual pupils while ensuring they remain included and engaged within the wider classroom.



About the Role

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group SEND support

  • Support pupils with needs including Autism, ADHD, SEMH and Speech & Language difficulties

  • Help pupils access lessons through differentiated resources and adapted activities

  • Work towards individual targets and EHCP outcomes

  • Deliver targeted literacy, numeracy, communication and SEND interventions

  • Support pupils with emotional and sensory regulation

  • Use visual timetables, communication aids and structured routines where appropriate

  • Promote positive behaviour and use effective de-escalation strategies

  • Encourage confidence, independence and positive peer relationships

  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and SENCO

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals



Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN/SEND

  • Experience within a mainstream primary school would be advantageous

  • Confident providing individual 1:1 support

  • Understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication needs

  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, SALT strategies or visual supports would be beneficial

  • Able to adapt learning activities around different levels of ability

  • Calm, patient and consistent when supporting behaviour

  • Proactive and confident working independently and as part of a classroom team

  • Available for a full-time, long-term position
