Job Description
CAD Technician
We are recruiting for an experienced CAD Technician to join a growing civil and environmental engineering consultancy delivering highways, transport, drainage and water engineering projects.
The successful CAD Technician will produce high-quality 2D drawings and 3D models across a varied portfolio of projects, including highway improvement schemes, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and traditional drainage projects.
This position goes beyond straightforward drafting, offering the opportunity to work closely with engineers and project managers while contributing to BIM processes, digital design standards and the continued improvement of CAD procedures across the business.
CAD Technician Role
As a CAD Technician, you will support projects from initial concept through to detailed design, ensuring drawings and models are technically accurate and produced in accordance with relevant standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Creating and modifying 2D technical drawings
- Producing and updating 3D design models
- Supporting highways, transport, SuDS and drainage projects
- Working with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and AutoTrack
- Maintaining drawing registers and document control procedures
- Working alongside engineers, consultants and project managers
- Resolving drawing and design-related technical issues
- Ensuring outputs comply with relevant technical and health andamp; safety standards
- Supporting BIM workflows and model coordination
- Contributing to the development of CAD and BIM templates and standards
- Identifying ways to improve design and presentation methods
- Supporting apprentices and graduates with CAD best practice
- Managing workloads across multiple projects and deadlines
CAD Technician Requirements
The successful CAD Technician will need a minimum of three years' relevant drafting experience together with strong AutoCAD capability and an understanding of civil engineering drawings.
You will require:
- Minimum 3 years' CAD drafting experience
- Strong AutoCAD skills
- Competency using Autodesk Civil 3D
- Competency using AutoTrack
- Good understanding of civil engineering technical drawing standards
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience working alongside engineers and project managers
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to support and mentor less experienced team members
Experience with Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud would be advantageous, alongside knowledge of BIM Level 2 workflows and ISO 19650 standards.
